HARVEY - After the official decision by the United States Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, State Senator Napoleon Harris, III (D-Harvey) released the following statement:
“Today, the Supreme Court has officially reversed nearly 50 years of judicial precedent. This is a blatant attack on basic human rights. What the court has done today ignores the opinions of the majority of Americans, as it helps states control women’s bodies, their choices, and their freedoms. This ruling will destroy both lives and livelihoods. Make no mistake: This is a war on women. This is a sad day in America.
“In anticipation of this day, we took action in Illinois, safeguarding the right of every woman in this state to make critical decisions about their own health and to decide for themselves – and their families – when to have children. As a state senator, I will continue to fight for the rights of all citizens in Illinois.”
