HARVEY – State Senator Napoleon Harris III announced that 19 school districts across the 15th Senate District will receive over $4 million in evidence-based funding, in addition to the base funding that the state provides.
“I believe that every student, no matter their ZIP code, deserves access to a high-quality education,” said Harris (D-Harvey). “I’m proud to have helped secured these resources so our schools can invest in the tools they need to succeed.”
The funding comes from the 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula — an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education. The law made school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing state revenue on those needs. The formula takes into account a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners, among other factors.
School districts across the South Suburbs set to receive funding through the formula include:
- Beecher School District 200U: $56,311
- Bremen Community High School District 228: $1,023,173
- Brookwood School District 167: $349,485
- Dolton School District 149: $340,410
- Ford Heights School District 169: $427

- Manteno School District 5: $58,247
